Bringing Books to Life! Is hosting the following FREE Professional Development Opportunities, open to any child care worker or preschool/Kindergarten teachers. Attendees will receive up to three hours of literacy training.

 

DATE: February 8th, 2020

Read It Again! 10:00am – 11:00am

Book suggestions and read aloud techniques for every occasion: music, movement, humorous, factual, quiet time etc. Also tips for Storytime rituals like songs, dances or magic tricks to help transition your students in to Storytime. 

Wonderfully Wordless 11:00am – 1:00pm

Help students with their narrating skills by giving them a story THEY can read with our selection of Wordless books with amazing illustrations. Watch how a story changes by simply altering the illustration shapes. Hands-on art techniques you can use in your classroom will also be taught!

Non-Boring Non-Fiction 10:00am -11:00am

Non-fiction and Informational books have gotten a bad rap in the children’s book world. We have searched and complied a list of these books that are exciting, interesting and full of fun!

Interactive Storytime PART 2: How to Bring a Book to Life ~ What makes a book?

Part of learning how to read is also learning parts of a book, from cover to cover. This workshop is full of creative lessons for learning about an author, title, illustrator, words and punctuation.

Every Child Ready to Read 10:00am – 11:00am

Learn research-based practices that can help young children develop the skills they need before they learn to read. We give book suggestions to help integrate these practices into daily activities to increase early literacy skills.

 

STEAM 11:00am – 1:00pm

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math is a popular teaching movement in today’s world. We discuss the basic philosophy of teaching STEAM and give you plenty of lesson ideas and books for all age groups. Hands On activity workshop!

 

Please note the library doesn’t open until 10am!
